From his original teachings but spoken to our world now
Take a step back and try to imagine what;
Service on the Mount
Matthew 5:3–12
or
Service on the Plain
Luke 6:20–26
Might sound like today…
Blessed are the ones the world forgets:
The single mother in the night shift.
The refugee with no country.
The addict in recovery.
The child who sleeps with hunger in his belly.
The ones who carry wounds you cannot see.
For the kingdom of God is not gated.
It does not require ID.
It is not behind walls or locked in vaults.
It is found where love walks barefoot and mercy kneels.
You built churches in my name, but often forgot my voice.
You held up my cross but not my compassion.
You defended doctrines while ignoring the dying.
You praised me with your lips and crucified me with your systems.
Woe to you who preach hate and call it holiness.
Woe to you who silence the broken to preserve your comfort.
Woe to you who gather wealth in my name while the poor remain invisible at your gates.
You have asked: “Lord, what must we do?”
Feed the hungry.
Visit the prisoner.
Welcome the stranger.
Bless those who curse you.
Love not just your friends—but the ones who unfollowed you.
You pray to escape this world, but I pray you transform it.
The kingdom of God is not in a far-off sky—
It’s within you, and among you, when you live with courage and kindness.
You say, “We are righteous.”
But I say: Do you love your enemy?
Do you forgive those who wronged you?
Do you protect the vulnerable when no one is watching?
You fear the other. I touched the leper.
You clutch the sword. I turned the cheek.
You climb the ladder. I washed the feet.
So now I say to you again:
Let the first become last.
Let the powerful sit with the powerless.
Let the ones with much give to those with little.
